North East Floods Emergency Appeal

North East Floods Emergency Appeal

100% of Amount donated by you will directly go into relief and rebuilding work for flood-torn districts of North-Eastern States.

The flood situation in Assam has stabilized a bit with most rivers now flowing below the danger mark except in the Golaghat district. People have lost their homes and personal valuables, along with their agricultural produce and livestock on which they depended for their livelihood and survival. As per Save the Children’s assessment, there are about 25,000 households, with over 10,000 children which have been severely affected. It's going to be a mammoth task for them to bring back normalcy to their lives. And you can lend your helping hand in that process.

The latest report released by the Assam Disaster Management Authority states that 82 persons have lost their lives so far. There are about 1,31,899 people still living in 363 relief camps; half of this population is of children. These relief camps have acute shortage of food, water and proper sanitation facilities. Save the Children is responding in three of the worst-affected districts – Dhemaji, Majuli and Sonitpur in which we are covering 60 villages - through Shelter kits, Hygiene Kits, Child Friendly Spaces and Livelihood support to both men and women. 519 households have been reached with Non-Food Items kits. A total of 2587 people: 775 Male, 775 Female, 531 Boys and 506 Girls in 15 villages (4 in Sonitpur and 11 in Dhemaji) have been reached out to through relief distribution so far. In the coming week, distribution will be done for 300 more families.

26 boys and 20 girls are attending one Child Friendly Space in Dhemaji. Seven more CFS’s are in the process of being set up. These Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) will be manned by our trained facilitators. A CFS is a safe space which provides learning, recreation and psychological support to disaster-struck children. We ensure that affected children do not drift away from their education.

Our aim is to reach out to 3000 families with various Non-Food items kits and 12 Child Friendly Spaces. This number will be increased if required. Please come forward and contribute your bit. Your support can save lives.
